My HR is a 1967 Special; it was purchased from a family member, who had it for over 20 years, as they had a sentimental attachment and many memories with the car. The HR had been sitting for a while but was in going order when I got the car home. However, it needed a good clean and there was rust in the boot area and door, boot, guard and bonnet panels.
In between the other projects the first 12 months consisted of dismounting the car. The big challenge with this car is that it is completely different and heavier than the earlier models. Therefore out came the research books, and web
owsing to learn about the HR series.
In the meantime I focused on acquiring replacement parts. As the HR is a restoration in progress, it is currently at the stage of being parked in the corner of the shed while the front is dismounted and it is cleaned and painted, after which the engine will be restored and placed back in the car.
From here, the rust in the boot will be repaired and panels will be fitted; parts will be cleaned and painted and either fitted or stored until the body is painted.
For my project I don’t allow a timeframe; it takes as long as it takes.
